12 August 1999. CrystalMaker Software formally launched their long-awaited
CrystalMaker 4.0 program at the 1999 International Union of
Crystallography congress in Glasgow, Scotland.
Capturing most interest at the show was the real-time 3D stereo imaging:
using the supplied red/blue glasses, dramatic,
out-of-the-screen three dimensional images can be rotated and
manipulated in real time. Comments like "wow", "amazing", "spectacular",
resounded, as molecules and crystals appeared to hover in mid-air, outside
the computer screen. "Ideal for teaching" was another widely-made remark,
and with packs of stereo glasses included with all multi-user licenses,
affordable and enthralling science is now within reach of all classrooms
and laboratories.
Whilst the stereo imaging may have won most hearts, the program's
new features go much further. Some of these include: display of vectors -
ideal for magnetic and electrical structures; text annotation tools - now
no need to copy and paste graphics into other programs just to add some labels;
real-time smoothing of lines and edges; custom bond styles; atom
colorization tools; range of new selection and editing tools - makes
working with molecular crystals so much easier; file previews and Navigation
Services; slick new interface...
CrystalMaker 4.0 is available as an optimized PowerPC program, shipping on
CD-ROM with over 400 annotated crystal and molecular structures, online
help, powder diffraction software, movies and QuickTime Virtual Reality
objects - plus a real printed user's guide. Follow these links for
pricing and
upgrade information.
